MESSAGE FROM PTS PRESIDENT
ON the earthquake in ECUADOR :

Dear All,

As president of the Panamerican Trauma Society and on behalf of the Executive Committee of the PTS, I would like to express our deepest sympathies and prayers to the victims of the earthquake in Ecuador.

I have received many emails and text of concerned colleagues and Friends! The outpouring of such concerns speaks volume of our sense of family that constitute the core of PTS.

I have been in contact with our Ecuadorian colleagues, who are mobilizing to help the victims. I extended our support in any way needed, and they will let us know. In particular, I have been in touch with Dr. Edgar Rodas, PTS board member representing Ecuador, who also serves as the President of the Cinterandes Foundation, as well as Dr. Juan Carlos Salamea, Chair of the PTS Media Relations. Dr. Rodas is mobilizing the Cinterandes Foundation’s Mobile Surgical Truck and unit to Pedernales where the Epicenter was, and where much of the infrastructure is damaged; Dr. Salamea is in contact with Ecuadorian Ministry of Health, and organizing rescue and site assessment Brigades to Northern Ecuador where many victims are found.

Both Dr. Salamea and Dr. Rodas will keep us informed of any help that may be needed from our Society as they have more direct knowledge of the actual situation and need.

Again, we stand in solidarity with our colleagues in Ecuador, and I ask all of our members to keep them, their patients, and families in your thoughts and prayers.

Michel B. Aboutanos
SPT President

These are some of the pictures that Dr. Rodas is sending us from Ecuador where he and the Cinterandes foundation team are working at the epicenter of the quake. He is working with Ministry of Health, donating the expertise and the mobile surgical truck unit of the Cinterandes Foundation to help the best way they can.

"Hi Mike. I sent you what we had done with the people in our team. We were [be] there from Monday to Thursday. This is a terrible disaster and will take such a long time to recover....Unfortunately not a lot of injured survivors."  Edgar Rodas, MD
